Help pick Echo's narrators
24 voices, four groups, one vote in each. Every voice reads the same three sentences, and you will not see a name until you vote.
Echo's voice picker will carry two voices from each group. I will use what you pick here to choose them.
The train pulled out a little after six, and the city let go of us by inches. “You’ll write when you get there?” she asked. I said I would. The window went dark, and after a while there was nothing out there but my own face.
How the clips were made
A taste test goes wrong when the clips differ in something other than the voice. Louder sounds better, and faster sounds more confident, so both were taken out. Every clip is paced to within a few words of 170 a minute, measured rather than guessed. Each one goes through the same mastering a finished Echo audiobook gets, and is then set to the same loudness.
Nothing was edited by hand or picked from several takes. Each clip is one pass of the same voice engine that runs in the Echo app and in Echo Studio, on your own device, with no cloud. The British voices read with British pronunciation.
Some of these voices were built for Echo, and the rest are the engine's stock voices. You find out which is which after you vote. Your vote is tied to a random number your browser keeps, not to you, and you can change it whenever you like. What is stored.
